Friday Recap (as promised)

Despite my very isolated campsite I actually have a few bars of ATT service AND I remembered to bring my iPad so have the convenience of it’s Bluetooth keyboard. It is 7:15 pm and I am settled in Scrat after a long day.

Literally all I can see in any direction is trees!

I drove from home to the campground (10am-3pm) via the NYS thruway to Amsterdam and then cut through the southern edge of Adirondacks to Corinth, a small town on the Hudson where it exits the Adirondacks and heads towards Albany.

The thruway was very crowded between Buffalo and Syracuse but after that not too bad. I listened to a spy novel audiobook “The English Assassin” which made the time go quickly.

It was another hour north-east to get to Hague which is on Lake George but on the north western edge of lake about 20 miles north of the actual town of Lake George.

Red dot is the campground

I picked up my registration packet and very nice t-shirt and got to eyeball the course and the area (which I wanted to do as will be dark probably when I get there in morning at 6:30).

It is an out and back 2.5 KM loop, so I will do it 4 times, in a wetsuit I can hopefully do it in around 3:20 (without a wetsuit I don’t think I would make the cutoff to be starting the last loop by 3 hrs).
Lake George is beautifully surrounded by the southeast edge of the Adirondack Mountains.

After getting some gas and food in Bolton Landing I headed back to campsite. It is a place I found via HipCamp which is an app for campsites, some are large commercial ones but others just a random farm or beach house where they let a few people camp for nominal fees. This one is in between, it has a nice lake and space for a few dozen big campers but I am in the “tent” area which is up in the woods and completely rustic.

It is 8pm now and starting to get dark, I will listen to the Yankee game on the MLB phone app and read my book a little. I am reading “Skeletons on the Zahara” a true story of a New England ship that wrecked on the West African coast in 1816.
