The best laid plans ….

I am flying down to NYC to help Alex move out of dorm and then bring their stuff home on Amtrak on Tuesday. I am wearing a soccer jersey because plan was to go to a bar in the city with James Lynch to watch a Premier League game with the rabid fans of Everton, I figured a Tanzania 🇹🇿 jersey would not offend fans of either team. After the game I had reserved tix to see the Woody Guthrie exhibit at the Morgan Library/Museum. I have never been there, it looks gorgeous on website and it is closed on Mondays so …. Will see. Whenever my room at Moxy Hotel is ready I will help Alex move their stuff from dorm to hotel. But …

When I woke this morning it said the flight would leave 15 min late due to fog in NYC. Then at gate we were told a “technical” issue ! After 30 minutes we were told plane “good to go and we could board”. But … then they added “but we can’t use cargo holds so your luggage will go on next flight”. I wouldn’t have a checked bag for a 2 day trip but brought one to make sure we had enough space for Alex’s stuff 🙂

Nice tech but human factors still make TSA a mess. Sadly less than 20% of people in airport wearing masks. None of the people in the rows near me on plane seem to have any, at least the seat next to me is empty. I guess no one heard that Covid rates rising fast in NYC and the whole state.

After we were all settled on plane the pilot announced JFK not letting us leave because of fog there. Fog? It will obviously burn off by the time we can get there but ….. fog? Planes never seem to have problems landing in SF or London. I wish I had taken the Van but didn’t want to park in the city.

I had been glad that we made it through Friday the 13th without any disasters (I was extra nervous on my 20 mile bike ride) but then on Saturday afternoon I started getting weird texts and ….

8:20, plane still at gate. Thank god I am not connecting to San Diego, they just told those people they have missed their 9am flight and will instead be rebooked on the 4pm, a full day of vacation lost because of “fear of fog”

And if they spend 5 hours at JFK without a mask there is a good chance they will catch Covid!

Signing off for now. Luckily I have my noise cancellation AirPods and a loooong book on my kindle. I could use a cup of coffee but no such luck.
